Cocoon Create Model Maker (Wanhao Duplicator i3 Mini) mount with part-cooling fan
Description
The Cocoon Create Model Maker (aka Wanhao i3 Duplicator Mini) was recently distributed in Australia through the retailer: Aldi (sold for $299 AUD). Prints off the CCMM showed promise but had the usual drooping and stringing due to a lack of a dedicated part-cooling fan. Intrigued with the design and having a natural tendency to open things and look inside, I opened the CCMM to reveal the board and power supply being used. Upon further inspection of the board, I realised that there was an extra port for a ‘fan’ which was not used. The existing fan (used to cool both the heatsink and act as a psuedo part cooling fan) was connected to a constant 24v port, hence why whenever the printer is turned on, the fan would turn on too. So I took a spare 5015 radial fan and plugged it into the “fan” port. With Octoprint I sent the command M106 S255 and confirmed that the fan responded to my gcode command. Unfortunately I couldn’t seem to modulate the fan speed, regardless the speed that I sent to it. Regardless, it’s much better than having no control at all.
