Qidi X-Smart Carriage and Lid Replacement
Description
Earlier this year I bought myself a Qidi X-Smart on Amazon, but I was disappointed with the print speeds I was forced to use due to the default carriage fans blowing on the filament from waaaay above the extruder. I redesigned the carriage to blow on the extruder from a much closer location, and even added a second fan to maximize cooling. With this design I have reached speeds of up to 125mm/s outer walls with no curling or warping, and 200mm/s infill. I also added a slot for a PINDA probe, as the X-Smart comes with a spot for auto-leveling on the board, and will update this post when I manage to get the software compatible with it. I included a version of the lid for the carriage as well, for people who want to have a matching assembly. This design works almost entirely with stock Qidi screws, with the notable exception being the screws which hold the fan ducts onto the carriage itself; for those I used #8-32 screws and nuts that I already had from home depot. The second fan is held into place by the extra screw and nut that come in the kit with the printer. If you want to use the second fan, you have to also print Switch Hitter.stl, it clips onto the back of the Y-axis so that the limit switch is hit 5mm less. This is necessary as the fan extends off of the back by about 4mm. Otherwise you just need Carriage, Belt Lock, Lid, and Duct 1. To attach the second fan, just solder (or really electrical tape and twist if you're lazy) a second 50mm fan on the same circuit as the first. While this design will work in PLA, and I have run many test prints using one made with PLA, I highly recommend using ABS/PETG for it. If you only need certain parts, the carriage is compatible with the stock Qidi lid, and the lid is compatible with the stock Qidi carriage. If you are having trouble getting the nuts into their holes, run the screw through the hole and then screw the nut onto it and tighten the nut into place. The fit is meant to be semi-permanent, so I don't have any plans to increase it's size.
