Air-conditioner Dripping Instant Fix

Air-conditioner Dripping Instant Fix

Description

It is against the law in Hong Kong to allow condensed water dripping out to the street from your air-conditioner, so if your building manager finds out that it is your air-conditioner that drips, you must shut it down immediately. But the air-conditioner is usually installed outside the multi-stories building, which makes it very dificult and dangerous to fix. You may pay for someone to install a drip pan underneath the air-conditioner, but in the hot summer season, you just cannot wait a few days for someone to come. The idea here is simple, just use a strong magnet to hold a funnel underneath the air-conditioner in order to collect the dripping water. Here I use a round 40mm diameter by 10mm thick strong neodymium magent which is already quite strong to hold the weight of the funnel plus the weight of the water tube. Besides, you can attach a safety string to avoid the whole thing dropping onto the street. As limited by the maximum printing size of your 3D printer, you might add a plastic plate to increase the water collecting area. Just like any drip pan, you will need to take the whole thing down once in a while to clean for clog, and the magnetic attachment method makes it easy to do so. Version V2 increases the depth of the funnel so that it is easier for printing. In addition, I also remove the magnet spacer so that you need to make your own which is straight forward. This is an advantage as it makes the top flat and so it can easily be printed up-side down. Moreover, you pick your own strong magnet as long as there is a hole in the middle, and you might also need to make a protective case for your magnet as it might corrode when being put outdoor for a long period of time. Version V3 is a plateless version. It takes longer to print, but it makes the whole thing looks much more professional as there is no need to add an external plastic plate. You can see that I always align the water tube with the magnet as this removes the tilting force against the magnet when the water tube is pulled down. Water is most likely dripping from the outer two corners of your air-conditioner, so a eccentric design with the funnel reaching out to catch the water drops makes more sense.
