D6 Internal RPi Mount
Description
An internal mount for a raspberry pi in the WANHAO D6 3D printer. Also includes a mount for a DC 4.5-40V to 5V 2A DC-DC step-down buck converter in order to power the rpi. Can be obtained from eBay, e.g. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DC-4-5-40V-To-5V-2A-USB-Charger-DC-DC-Step-down-Buck-Converter-Voltmeter-UK-FAST-/401264810148 Modified the original rpi case to use nuts. You will need 10xM3 nuts and 8xM3 bolts, 12mm M3 bolts should work. I shortened a micro USB cable to power the rpi, you may need a left-angled USB cable or one with a short USB connector, as there is 30mm clearance. See photos for details. Case allows you to use the kintaro rpi heatsink, and a 40mm fan. Another consideration, this is designed for the rpi 3. The wireless module cannot function inside the printer, I use an Ethernet cable to connect octoprint, but you could use a USB wifi adapter mounted externally to the printer, or modify the onboard wifi to utilise an external antenna which would again be mounted externally. A guide on how to do this is here: https://www.dorkbotpdx.org/blog/wramsdell/external_antenna_modifications_for_the_raspberry_pi_3 Included STEP and Solidoworks files for remixing.
