Pi Box 4 Ender 3

Pi Box 4 Ender 3

Description

This print is of a box that mounts in right-rear of the Creality Ender 3 printer between the power supply and the Y-axis rail. The box was designed for a Raspberry Pi and a small box for a DC-DC step down board but it could be used as a general purpose tray. The design will also fit any printer using V-Slot aluminum rails of the 40mm, 60mm or 80mm sizes. You just need to make sure you have a corner that has space for it. The boxes outside dimensions, not including the rail interfaces, is 40mm high x 100mm wide (x-direction) x 120mm deep (y-direction). This design is probably overly heavy duty for the purpose, but I tend to like things built sturdy, so I kept it beefy. The included CableClip1.stl is a design by Ganjar Nugraha, gn-jr, called "Creality Ender-3 Display Ribbon Cable Clip" and found https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2880021 . I just rotated it for better stress management. For the step down board I used an LM2596 DC-DC converter to supply 5 volts to the Raspberry Pi. I included a switch and an LED to indicate when the Pi is powered on. I tapped into the 24 volts in the printer's power supply and used Anderson Power Poles for quick connect. To bring the 5 volts to the Raspberry Pi, I made a cable from a solderable micro-usb connector. The three photos show the box installed with the Clip detailed, the Empty Box and In Service with Raspberry Pi running OctoPrint to allow remote control of the printer. Edit: I tossed in a Remix of the same box with all the Pi windows and divider gone. So, it can be used as a general storage box for the back.
