Compact and Silent E3D v6 Fan Box

Compact and Silent E3D v6 Fan Box

Description

There are plenty of fan mounts and around for the E3Dv6 hotend, but I could not find a single one that fitted my my exact setup, so I made yet another one. The fan mount is intended to be used with three 40mm silent fans and will cool both the hotend and the extruded filament at a very low sound level. Please note that there is a huge difference in sound level between silent 40mm fans and standard ones. The increased airflow from standard fans is not needed with this fan mount, since the air is precisely directed to where it is needed. I have had good luck with 40mm fas from Fractal Design The mount should work with any extruder with a Wade's extruder hole pattern. Many of the existing fan mounts make it hard to watch the extrusion result. I have tried to make this mount compact in order to maintain as much visibility as possible. Additionally, the hotend cooling fan is placed behind the hotend, which makes it possible to see more of the model during print. The fanbox is divided in two parts. The upper is a standard 6mm hotend mounting plate with a hotend fan mount. This can be used by itself if you do not want filament cooling. The lower part consists of two fan mounts for silent 40mm fans with a common cooling channel. The two filament cooling fans blow air downwards and slightly towards the center, not directly at the heat block as in many other cooling solutions. The fan box was constructed using FreeCAD and the design file is available for download together with the printable STL files.
