Cylinder Locking Mechanism

Cylinder Locking Mechanism

Description

Here is a concept that will be useful if you ever need to work with cylinders, interlocking tubes, bottles, etc. When I think of joining two cylindrical objects, I immediately think of screw threads. Bottles and caps, pipes and joints, etc. While screw threads can be 3D printed, they're not optimal and usually a waste of time. The other thing that looks like it works is the tongue and groove mechanism. However a standard rectangular tongue and groove means horizontal overhang which 3D printing isn't capable of. The simple modification of making tongue and groove triangular solves this problem. The files show a model that you can redesign yourself. Using 0.15 offset allows for a very snug and secure fit. You can use pliers to turn the mechanism. If made into a larger size for two cylinders or bottle/cap, you might want to try 0.2 offset to easily turn with your hands. The model is made with a series of revolves: * The entry points are 30 degrees. * The grooves are 90 degrees. * The tongues are 28 degrees.
