octopus flower generator
Description
You can print one these, stick it on top of a pencil and rotate it when you don't feel like writing. Another purpose of this object is to demonstrate basic subtractive geometry, loops that position objects with transition, rotation and a little bit of math, and use of parameters. This thing was made with BlocksCAD, a visual programming environment to create 3D objects, i.e. some kind of OpenSCAD for kids that might get some kids interested in learning how to program. Today, many kids are familiar with Scratch and should be able to learn quite quickly this Blockly-based environment. This object is almost fully parametrized, i.e. one can generate several variants by modifying initial variable settings (N petals, hub dimensions, petal length, width, height, etc.). Remove the hull (untick in BlocksCAD) if you want to see how a bunch of little cubes define a shape. To play with the code at BlocksCAD: either download the .xml file and load it at: https://www.blockscad3d.com/editor or clone from https://www.blockscad3d.com/community/projects/249385. You then can parametrize to your liking. Alternatively you can use the Customizer here or you could play with the OpenSCAD source code generated from BlocksCAD.
