Confederate Ironclads
Description
You're standing lookout on the deck of the Union warship USS Cumberland anchored in Hampton Roads. The cold morning air bites through your coat. Through the fog laying over the bay you see a shape moving, you take it as nothing, seeing things from a late watch. You take a swig of coffee from your canteen to clear your head. Suddenly you see the shape move out of the fog. A great lumbering beast low in the water, black smoke billowing from its smokestack, flying the flag of the Confederacy. You sound the alarm, and watch as this beast begins to make its way towards your ship. You hear your shipmates start to bark orders, and the guns open up. FDOOM! FDOOM! FDOOM! The cannonballs fly through the air at an incredible speed, CLANG! CLANG! You stare in horror as the shots bounce off the shape, as if it were made of iron! Suddenly your ship lurches underneath you, throwing you to the deck. You regain your footing and see the nose of the beast buried in the hull of your ship. It reverses its engines and slowly pulls itself out opening the hole to the sea. Your ship starts to go down, fast. The Battle of Hampton Roads has begun, and war as we know it has changed forever. These are some rather simplified Civil War ironclads I built up for some tabletop games. They are modeled at roughly 1/600 scale, but can be scaled to whatever you require easily. If one desires much more detailed models, they can be found at my new storefront on Wargaming3d. https://www.wargaming3d.com/vendor/eastcoastironclads/ Ships in this Confederate set so far are: CSS Albemarle CSS Atlanta CSS Fredericksburg CSS Manassas CSS Neuse Added 10/27/2018 CSS Virginia CSS Palmetto State CSS Virginia II CSS Arkansas CSS Baltic Corrected orientation of Albemarle, Atlanta, Fredericksburg, Manassas, and Neuse. Added 10/29/2018 CSS Charleston CSS Chicora CSS Colombia CSS Huntsville CSS Louisiana CSS Mississippi CSS Missouri CSS Muscogee Added 11/2/2018 CSS North Carolina CSS Raleigh CSS Richmond CSS Savannah Update 11/12/2018 Converted all model dimensions to metric to alleviate slicer weirdness. Added: CSS Tennessee CSS Tuscaloosa Update 3/25/2019 Added separate models with bases removed These ships are modeled without cannons or gunport shutters. If you wish for your ships to have visible cannons, short pieces of toothpicks painted black can be used, and small pieces of paper can be used for gunport shutters. Charleston, Chicora, Palmetto State, Raleigh, and Richmond had spar torpedoes fastened to their bows. If desired a small hole can be drilled and a piece of fine wire inserted. These aren't the most detailed models in the world, but throw a little paint on them, and stick a little piece of a cotton ball painted black on top of the stack, and they come out looking pretty good! I will add more as I finish them, and will do a separate set of Union ironclads after I finish the Confederate ironclads.
