Union Ironclads
Description
You rush around, everyone is confused. Over the noise you hear someone shout "The Rebs, they've attacked the blockade!" You feel your stomach sink, if they break the blockade, then Norfolk and the rest of Hampton Roads will be firmly in their grasp. You rush to the dock and board your ship, the USS Monitor. You give the order to have your men shoveling as much coal as they can move. you slowly turn away from the dock, maneuvering out into the channel. The Rebs have already sunk two ships, you're the Unions only hope if this beast is going to be stopped. You reach Hampton Roads and before you is the carnage dealt by this iron beast. USS Cumberland is sunk, USS Congress has run aground. as you survey the damage, you see the great metal monster come lumbering out of its lair. You steam ahead to meet it head on. You reach the center of Hampton Roads and peer down the barrel of one of the 14" guns. You wait until the monster is in rage and give the order, FIRE! FDOOM! FDOOM! CLANG! CLANG! your shells bounce off the metal hide doing little damage. RELOAD! Your men bustle around, loading the guns and prepare for the next shot. Suddenly, your entire ship is rocked and you almost lose your footing and hear tremendous crashes as enemy cannonballs smash into your own ship! You peer through the gunport and see the Rebel monster slipping past your ship. SHE'S GETTING AWAY MEN! LETS SHOW THEM THIS SHIP IS NO IDLE THREAT! You feel the newly designed turret on your ship begin to slowly turn, bringing your guns to bear on your foe. FIRE AS SHE BEARS! FDOOM! FDOOM! CLANG! CLANG! Again your shots bounce off. You continue the battle for several hours. Firing back and forth relentlessly, but dealing no significant damage. Soon, the tide begins to go out, the Rebel ship must go back to port or risk running aground. This day has proven that the days of wooden ships and iron men is over. This is the Union Ironclad set that can be combined with the Confederate Ironclad set. They are modeled in roughly 1/600 scale, and can be scaled to whatever scale you need. So in this set, I will only be including the first in class ships, and the one-off ships such as the USS Onondaga. That means this set will be much smaller than the Confederate set. Although, if you would like to request a specific ship, I would be more than happy to build and upload it. Dictator and Miantonomoh have awnings/hurricane decks around the smokestack. I have modeled small pads to drill holes to insert wire to act as supports for the awning. As with the confederate set I will upload ships as I complete them.
