Huntingtin N17 peptide
Description
This is a 3D model of the huntingtin N17 peptide, the first 17 amino acids of the huntingtin protein, the protein that causes Huntington's disease when mutated. My lab has shown since 2008 that this is a target region for HD drug discovery, which culminated in a new drug lead published in 2018. The peptide seqeunce is an alpha-helix, sequence: MATLEKLMKAFESLKSFQ... The two serines are hypo-phosphorylated in Huntington's disease, but can be restored by small molecule drug leads.
