Tensegrity Sculpture
Description
I'm not sure what people are interested in, so hit the "LIKE" button if you want to see more of this kind of thing. There is quite a bit to learn from tensegrity, as NASA is finally coming around too. I'm noticing that this is getting a lot of views, but not so many downloads. I wonder if it's too large for most people? Or if assembling it looks to difficult? Here's an easy to assemble (prints with supports that hold it together while you rig the tension lines, then remove support). https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3221097 Tensegrity is a controversial word for an idea, popularized by Buckminster Fuller, and brought to Fuller by his student. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenneth_Snelson . The idea is that durable, in fact much stronger than they appear, structures can be formed where the forces of compression, and tension, are carried by separate elements. Here's a short video of what it looks like assembled. It's easiest to assemble it on a fixture, like I've supplied. https://youtu.be/5QmdnuAPojs
