101Hero No-Glue Five Triangle Brace
Description
These are braces for the 101Hero printer that don't require glue, just drilling four holes per pylon and 4 M3 bolts/nuts per brace. My local Lowe's sells a 12-pack of M3 bolts and a 12-pack of M3 nuts that would work fine, but I used nylon locking nuts for mine since I move it around a lot and didn't want to re-tighten it all the time. To install, you need to drill holes big enough for M3 bolts in your pylons. Hold the brace on the pylons as high as you can without it being too close to the top (see pics) and mark the four holes with a marker. Drill the holes, then put the bolt in from the front on the top, and from the back on the bottom. If you put the bolt in from the front on the bottom, your carriages will contact them. Alignment isn't crucial, but you should try to get it straight for aesthetic reasons at least. I designed these braces because I didn't like the fact that the others required you to permenantly glue them to the frame. I like the idea of being able to disassemble my printer again, if need be, so I wanted to bolt on some braces instead. These also have wider contact points that most of the glue-on braces, so it should be just as good, if not better. The downside is having to drill a few holes in each pylon. I saw this as a trivial sacrifice for a modular, replaceable brace -- rather than a permanent, non-changeable fixture.
