CTC Extruder Mounted Spool Holder

CTC Extruder Mounted Spool Holder

Description

I was tired of my filament either coming off my spools or becoming tangled so I thought of an easy way to mount the filament spool with the least amount of resistance to the spool and filament. I found for me that by mounting the spool to the extruder and allowing it to move as one unit it has little to no resistance. It has two mounting holes that will mount to the factory threads on the extruder. This is only used if you are using one extruder, will not work on dual extruders. It is very simple to use and at the 15 degree angle it will not need anything to hold the spool in place. The filament must be fed on the right side of the spool. It was engineered for the weight to be distributed directly over the center of the extruder and the spool mounted at its lowest point before hitting the printer casing to prevent a wobbling effect. The lower center portion of the mount sits on top of the Stepper motor for center support. I have 5 printers using this mount that run almost 24-7 and have not had any issues with about 6 months into the design so I decided to share it. Some prints, depending on how fast I want them printed, do move pretty quickly and originally had a wobbling effect. I have corrected this issue by using spring feet on the bottom of the unit. I have added them here as well. Im using 20mm OD x 40mm Height springs. The spring feet help a lot when the extruder moves quickly. I have not had any issues with the stepper motors added weight that it has to move around, and frankly if I did the motors are only $6 to replace. This can be printed without any supports with 15% infill density. I use Inland brand filament. I have also included a file that mounts on the rear stepper motor bolts, but you must use longer bolts to compensate for the 4 mm plate that holds the spool on.
