SMA Antenna holder for 27mm spaced standoffs
Description
* I tossed a few versions for a front clip as well to go under the camera. Basically the same piece with modifications for a camera lens. The versions allow for different camera angles - the lowest is what typically fly at, the highest is a more aggressive angle. I have searched for a solution to mounting my SMA Pagoda or Aomway style antenna and after having tried several, I created this. The main problem with typical antenna mounts is the weak spot at the base of the SMA connector where your cable will get strained over time and simply stop holding its shape. This was designed to take the strain away from the brass mount and extend it over a larger area of the cable itself. This is a friction/wedge style mount that uses 3 wedges to lock the antenna into place. The clip was intended to be installed with at least one standoff removed and will not simply clip on. This was done intentionally to avoid popping off in a crash. It was designed to fit any 27mm spaced standoff. It fits my modified XL5 frame perfect. The changes I made refer to the standoffs being lowered to 25mm in height. I use the standard aluminum standoffs with the hex or knurled ends that leave the middle span with a smaller diameter than the ends. (see photo). However it would fit into the taper of 28mm and 30mm standoffs. (The long one pictured is 35mm and has some play top to bottom) Keep in mind this puts the brass SMA inside the body of your drone a little ways so you will need some planning/cable control. The notched version of the clip has a little protrusion to wrap a zip tie around and keep the antenna from spinning. The notched version of the 120 wedge has a small opening to further add support with craft wire or a simple twist tie. As seen in the photo I inserted the twist tie around all 3 wedges (inside the void) then used a needle nose to twist tightly. Clip and re-insert twist back into notch for a finished look.
