9V Battery Hanger with Switch
Description
I love this tree topper this designer made (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2629954) and I printed one out last year at the last minute for my tree. I wasn't satisfied with the awesome design, I wanted this Deathstar of Christmas to be FULLY OPERATIONAL. So I rigged up a circuit with a 9V and switch with a LED and drilled it out so I could make it look like it's about to fire. I just hung the battery in the tree with the switch hanging loose too because I made it at like 3am and didn't have time for much else. This year several friends have requested them so I designed a battery and switch housing with a hook on it to hang on the tree for a cleaner and more professional look. The base just snaps into the body, it's not super tough so be careful or be ready to print another. I made about a half dozen of these so far and none have broken even after taken them apart a couple times. The circuit is super basic, just a red LED, 330ohm resistor off the positive side. Then run a wire from that through the hole in the body and solder that to the positive side of a 9V batter connector. Run a wire from the negative side through the body to one side of the switch and then solder the negative wire from the 9V connector to the other side of the switch. It fits snugly, you will have to carefully stuff the wires and battery in but it's not tough. I used a 7/32 drill bit to drill out the hole and just the right angle for the LED then hot glue to secure that and the two halves of the design together. Hope you like it, big thanks to Ei9ht for the cool design! Hope you like the upgrade!
