208mm Build Height Gauge (Ruler)

208mm Build Height Gauge (Ruler)

Description

This is a thin PLA ruler, created as a calibration and capability test for my 3d printer with a .40mm print nozzle. 208mm x 25mm x .065mm I wanted a gauge along the vertical strut of my Prusa i3 Mk3, as an absolute Z-height reference. Accuracy is on the order of +/- 1mm, give or take your skill at eyeballing the level. It is also a nice test of your first level calibration, and overall printer precision and fine detail capability. I chose to use the top edge of the "X-end-motor" printed part as my index. The bottom of the ruler/gauge is at zero and is set flush with the top of the index when Z is at actual zero. From zero to the bottom of the "Z-axis-top" printed part is 208mm...so that is the upper limit. The Build Height Gauge is attached with double-sided tape. Files include a .STL generated by <a href="https://www.tinkercad.com/things/2F4pzgLshZo">TinkerCad</a>, and a .gcode file generated by Slic3r PE. This was fun to design and print. Tried various layers, discovered limitations to shells, found what I think is the limit of .40mm nozzle resolution for lines and spacing, heights for text/lines, etc. Makes a handy ruler even if you don't mount it to your frame. Try it!
