Chess Board (Makruk Thai-Style)

Chess Board (Makruk Thai-Style)

Description

Our 3D printed Makruk Thai chess pieces needed a board, so we designed this very large board with 50x50mm squares. Thai chess boards are monochrome but you could just as easily print out contrasting/alternating squares for your board. Our Makruk Thai chess pieces are here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3272005 #Printing & Post-Printing This design requires a lot of friction welding. Check out our tutorial (video) on friction welding here: https://appliedtechnologylab.blogspot.com/2018/06/3d-printing-tutorial-friction-welding.html To give it extra weight, we assemble the bottom and top halves, fill both with concrete (cement/sand mix) then weld the two halves together. There is a lot of room inside the board to add LEDs or anything else as well but will require you to modify the 3D file (SketchUp) or do some drilling. Check out the file names of the parts to print. If there is an "x" and a number, that's how many times you have to print that file out. If there is no number, just print that file once. We're still printing it out. When we're done we'll update with photos and a little guide to putting it together.
