String Cannon (Cable pulling aid)

String Cannon (Cable pulling aid)

Description

String Cannon is a useful tool if you ever need to feed cables through very long round conduit installations. String Cannon is an efficient way to insert a draw line into conduit, using compressed air. No special fittings or fixings are required, just use a dust off gun (usually supplied with most cheap compressor kits) and blast string through the conduit. String Cannon allows you to easily propel string through conduit with compressed air. String Cannon minimises air leaks. Much faster than a draw wire! Works over longer distances than draw wire! Saves effort! Entirely cromulent! Enhances your yesness! Print one String Cannon, as a minimum. Depending on the conduit size, you can print either of the stl files for the "pig" that are provided. Or, you may edit the openscad file to generate a different "pig". Pass string/paracord from the top, through the central hole of your String Cannon. Tie a large knot (eg a monkey fist) in the end of the string, or attach suitable "pig" that is a good fit inside the conduit. A rag tied onto the string/paracord that can be pushed into the conduit may be suitable as a pig. Stuff the pig into the conduit, ensuring you do not trap the cord, then seat the String Cannon firmly in the open end of the conduit. Applying a bit of pressure should make it jam into the opening. Firmly press the nozzle of a dust off gun into the conical opening of String Cannon. Squeeze the trigger of the dust off gun and guide the string as it blasts through the conduit. If the cord/string is on a reel, it helps to lay out enough slack into a loose heap to reduce friction and speed up the process. Once the pig arrives at an opening in the conduit, the string will stop being drawn effectively. You may need to open intermediate conduit fittings, pull cables through and repeat for the next section. --- This is designed in openscad and I did it in a bit of a hurry - I will try and come back to this design and make the model more usefully parametric. Please comment if this would help you.
