Filament Spool Holder

Filament Spool Holder

Description

I wanted an adjustable spool holder and couldn't find quite what I wanted, so made my own. It easily adjusts to accommodate any spool width. It requires standard 608 bearings and some M8 hardware. Please note that the threaded rod is tight initially but turns nicely after running it back and forth a couple of times to break it in. Everything press-fits together. The M8 hardware is to mount the bearing rollers for the spool to ride on. I suppose I could have eliminated the hardware if I designed in some snap-posts instead. Never got around to it. Be careful when pressing the threaded rod in so that you don't break off the tip. Once it's assembled it's pretty solid. A bearing presses into each of the pillow block uprights and the threaded rod presses into the bearings. The knob then presses onto the post protruding out the other side of the bearing in the simple bearing pillow block. Don't forget to thread on the moving upright before pressing the two bearing pillow blocks together. I print the threaded rod vertically - needs really good adhesion so it doesn't fall over mid print. Additional parts needed: 6 608 bearing 4 M8 x 1.25 x 25mm cap screw 4 M8 x 1.25 Nut 4 M8 washer optional mounting to frame: 2 M4 x 0.7mm x 20mm cap screw 2 M4 x 8mm slot T-nut for 30 Series Extrusion
