Creality Ender 3 Bigtreetch SKR v1.1 & Orangepi Zero

Description

UPDATED: 2019.02.16 * Display working * Added pictures of the mod to have ender3 display connected with only one cable. * added lazy links to parts in aliexpress * configuration files added for firmware * case assembled for the first time. It seems to work fine. Need some tweaks for preparing for cover design. UPDATED: 2019.02.15 * Changed orangepi orientation. Should now fit properly. * Added assembly pictures. * Added support for both - LM2596 based and more powerful XL4015 modules *** This is case for bigtreetech SKR v1.1 with orangepi zero. This also houses two dc-dc converters to provide power for 12v (led strip, 12v fans) and 5v (orangepi, why not bigtreetech, 5v ledstrips if avail, webcam). This setup give you full setup while being cost effective. What you need (links in the end): - Bigtreetech SKR v1.1 - Orangepi Zero, zero plus (H2+,H5) - LM2596 or XL4015 dc-dc converters (holes for both modules) - brass (or metal) distance spacers. 3mm thread, 5mm height. Typically used on pc cases to house the motherboard. You need to stack them for xl4015 modules to get them higher up. *** LM2596 comes with various dimensions. So it's just a miss and hit. They are rated 3A, but on our application it would not take more than 1A before getting quite hot since we have input voltage of 24v and output voltage of only 5v and greater the voltage difference between input and output the more wasteful they are. I have bought a 10 pack of XL4015 which have visibly bigger diode, thicker pcb tracks and bigger inductor. They are rated 5A and they come with a small radiator in a kit. They are also a lot bigger pcb wise. There are holes in the board for both dc-dc converters so they can be mix and matched. *** Ender3 stock display CAN be used. If you want to keep minimal on mods, the EXP1 and EXP2 connectors need to be reversed. Either sockets need to be removed and installed 180 degrees rotated or notch on the cable need to be snipped so it allows wrong side insertion. If you are more adventurous like me and would like to use just single cable on the ender3 display the you can use only exp1 port and wire 2 missing pins from EXP2 to free pins on EXP1 (button encoder pins are missing from exp1). Pictures included. **** DO NOT USE THIS MOD ON SKR1.3. SKR 1.3 has pins connected to all of the exp1 and exp2 connector pins. It means that it should be able to reconfigure the whole connector to work with ender EXP3 *WITHOUT ANY* hw modification. Needs to be tested **** *** I have added firmware configuration files and binary fw also. Currently you don't need to splice any cables. It would be good to change the connector housings on the endstops but not 100% requred for it to work. Part cooler fan goes to Fan connector and hotend cooler goes to HE1. It now has auto turn off if temperature is under 50c. To connect bigtreetech to orangepi a custom cable should be used and soldered /connected to orangepi pinout. Or you can get the usb breakout board for orangepi zero. This thing is work in progress. Just printing the first prototype so don't expect too much of it yet. *** Getting there to be almost recommended to print. But don't waste your time printing it out at this time. Will be making additions during next week or so *** *** This whole setup hardwarewise should cost you less than 30EUR/USD if you have a sdcard of some sort or +10 eur for sdcard and/or orangpi zero model with internal nvram. Add another 20USD to the setup to get the quietness of the Trinamic drivers. *** Lazy parts list links: Brass spacers: https://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?catId=0&initiative_id=SB_20190215232256&SearchText=brass+standoff+spacer+m3 Bigtreetech SKR 1.1: https://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?catId=0&initiative_id=SB_20190215232450&SearchText=BIGTREETECH+SKR+V1.1+Control+Board+32+Bit I don't recommend the drivers from Bigtreetech. Get these FYSETC instead: https://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?catId=0&initiative_id=SB_20190215232611&SearchText=fysetc+tmc2208 Orangepi is 512Mb. Don't recommend 256mb model, althou if RepetierServer is used then you can get away with it.
