Cold frame - Frühbeet

Cold frame - Frühbeet

Description

Spring is coming! Ever since I bought a 3D-Printer, one of my ideas was to create a flexible, easy to scale and inexpensive cold frame for sectors of my raised bed. A 1m x 1m Cold frame is very inexpensive: 5 € (2 for the pipes, about 3 for the filament). A used foil you can get for free from a furniture shop or elsewhere. Things you need: 1. 4 x 3m/16mm Installation conduit (5 if you make an etxra arc (bow) in the middle or a ventilation opening on one or both sides) 2. about 4m2 foil 3. 4 - 8 little wood screws (about 15 mm long) for the bows 4. Printed parts a) 18 x HB_type_one_connector b) about 30 clips optional: c) 2 - 4 holder for ventilation, only if you make one or two d) 5 x HB_type_two_connectors + 4 x HB_type_one_connector, only if you make longer frames, for an in between arc. For a 1 m x 1 m frame you need to do: 1. For the 2 arcs: Cut off 2 x 2 m pipes and put 8 x HB_type_one_connectors on it , cut off 2 x 1m pipes, put 1 x HB_type_one_connector on it and cut off 2 x 0.5m pipes to stabilisize the arc. The vertical struct (0.5 m) I fixed with two little screws. The horizontal struct (1m) can also be fixed, but I did'nt. 2. Cut off 5 x 1m pipes for the connection between the arcs. 3. Cut out the foil for the side panels and the roff and clip it on. If you have a thicker foil please scale up the clips. 4. Stick the cold bed in the earth. There is about 25 cm left at each arc edge. Optional: If you make a longer cold frame please make a bow in between with 4 x HB_type_one_connectors and 5 x HB_type_two_connectors and longer connection pipes. For a ventilation please make 2 or 4 holder for ventilation and one or two extra pipe at the end of then foil - see pictures. Sow salad, wait and good luck! Update 3/2/2019: Added: - HB_type_three_connector, can be used in the corners. - HB_type_four_connector, can be used three times in the middle arc. See picture with 3 segments and 4 arcs.
