Trash Compactor Knob
Description
My Maytag trash compactor knob snapped today. I designed this in Fusion 360 as a replacement. Looks like Maytag doesn't sell trash compactors anymore. This is model from about 2014. I used PLA with graphene to make it stronger. But it really doesn't take much stress so any PLA should be fine. I used 50% infill but again you could do 20% and be OK. After many prints I found the best way to print it is with the post straight up with supports to only the bed. The face is going to be a little messy but the alternatives are worse. And who actually looks at their trash compactor knob? Edit 7/22/19: The hollow shaft kept snapping off. I tried annealing which lasted a little longer. But I finally just redesigned the shaft to be solid top to bottom. The new file is KnobSolid.stl. Edit 3/8/20: Still breaking but lasts much longer. I suggest rotating the knob 45 along the handle axis. Add a raft and supports. The shaft should be pointing slightly upwards at 45 degrees like a tank barrel. (See photo I added). This should be stronger along the shaft. And the supports only touch the face near the edge making it cleaner.
