Wanhao Duplicator I3 Plus Y Belt Redesign

Wanhao Duplicator I3 Plus Y Belt Redesign

Description

This came about when I tried tensioning the belt with a design I found which did not really work well. Trying to come up with a better design, I remembered a idea I had when challenged in school when trying to get a car out of a ditch with just a rope and the power of 3 people. Fortunately, I found someone else had already thought about the concept and and shared it here. I highly recommend checking BensHacks thing out and watch his video to get a more in depth understanding. Also, see my other thing which redesign of the x axis: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3528084 This is an upgrade for you who wants more control with your belt driven carriege. There are several ways to improve the resolution of your printer from the original 12,5 microns. You can change pulley motor gear to a 10 toothed one and while this will give you a 6,25 microns resolution, you will have less grip surfaces to prevent the belt from slipping. A better way to increase resolution is to get a 0,9 degree stepper motor. This will however cost more and you will keep the existing flaws of the original design. You may still however be able to use 0,9 degree stepper motors as a compliment to this design. Total cost of the redesign is about $10 and the design promise to remove the shortcomings the printer had in the first place. Reasons you would want this: * Easy to reach and precise belt tensioning of the Y-belt. * Decreases belt slop - Belt springs are not needed. * Stronger Y-motor mount and pulley mount. * 1:2 gearing - 160 steps/millimeter. * Compatible with with 30 tooth pulley gears. * Compatible with most common NEMA17 motors. * Better Y axis jerk settings. Reasons why you would not want this: * Your Y motor will make more noise. * Your Y motor will run hotter. * Your print speeds will decrease slighty. I have made a detailed drive document installation manual which you can find here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1MVTj8y-Qy9WG2hiM57VcamwvpgEuGNMjYUssyaKlKFI/edit?usp=sharing If you have any questions, comments or critique, please feel free to post them. * 190317 - Proven the design of the new Y carriege pulley mounts. Fixed some nut fitment issues with the Early Access files. Removed the old files, released the new files from Early Access and updated the installation manual. Removed "work in progress" as i feel satisfied with the design, it might however still change if I can improve on something.
