V2.0 Marimba Mallets

V2.0 Marimba Mallets

Description

My original design: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3482429 I don't recommend using the original version, the V2.0's are much much much better!!! This is a set of Marimba mallet Cores. These are for making your own marimba mallets from scratch. Stuff you need: ==================================================================== -~5/16" x >34" hardwood dowel (birch or rattan if available, but I used oak and it worked perfectly) -Sandpaper -1 x DIY Marimba Mallet Cores print (each print is 2 cores) I used pla, but I would probably recommend using something stronger. Flexible filament might also work if it is stiff enough. -Yarn (pretty much anything works... The thinner the yarn, the harder it is to wrap! Use softer yarn for softer mallets and harder yarn for harder mallets etc...) optional things: ==================================================================== -rubber bands or rubber coating can help the sound if applied to the outside of the core -stick tape (I recommend using tennis Racket tape) -washi (or similar) decorative tape Instructions: ==================================================================== Cut dowel into 2 pieces anywhere from 15 to 18 inches long each. (I like ~17") Sand the top of the dowel until the printed cores fit snugly. (you may need to tap with a hammer) Glue cores onto stick with gorilla glue or similar. Let dry. Start wrapping! I recommend watching one of these videos for wrapping instructions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzZbApyCIPE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HsE8WfKAkY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_owCyBPS7I Wrap with stick tape (optional) personalize with decorative tape Enjoy your new mallets! ====================================================================
