Apollo 11 Command Module (Smithsonian)
Description
Apollo 11 Command Module The Smithsonian Museum has been digitizing and publishing some of their exhibit pieces. These are high quality laser scans https://3d.si.edu/ They produced a full scan of the actual Apollo 11 Command Module that is on display. This scan includes both and interior and exterior views. https://3d.si.edu/apollo11cm You can play with the exterior model here https://3d.si.edu/apollo11cm_media/boxes/play-cm-2016-09-26/cm-exterior.html Entry in the Smithsonian item database http://collections.si.edu/search/results.htm?q=record_ID:nasm_A19700102000 Video about the digitization process https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xyiy2fiV_Mc It is exquisite in its detail. I had to down load and print this. What's included: -- 2 different scales provided by the Smithsonian (1/20 and 1/40) -- These models are tilted about 2 degrees off of perpendicular so I tipped the 1/40 model -- I am a novice printer and I had trouble getting it to print without supports missing up the detail at the top or marring the heat shield. I used Meshmixer to slice it into a cone section and heat shield section. These can be printed with no supports. -- I have include pictures of my various attempts at 50% of the 1/40 (1/80). I hope better skilled printers out there will post better versions. I will post more once my skills improve. Any advice is welcome and appreciated. -- The Readme file from the Smithsonian. PLEASE everyone, respect their guidance. The models they are publishing are beautiful and credit should be given. My tests were printed -- 50% scale of the 1/40 model -- .1mm -- No infill -- XYZ Printer White PLA -- On the split version, I had a warping problem so I added a 10mm brim Enjoy!
