Ice Axe Pick and Bottom Point Cover

Ice Axe Pick and Bottom Point Cover

Description

These two covers, for the pick and bottom point of my ice axe, fit on the ice axe by friction only. At least, they do so on the ice axe I designed them for, a PETZL GLACIER. I have designed holes into both covers in order to be able to pass a cord into them and secure the covers to the ice axe. My idea is that a single cord with a carabiner at the end could be tied to the pick cover, pass through one of the holes in the pick, and go down to the bottom cover, clamping into its hole. I believe at least the pick cover should fit on many other ice axes, that's why I am sharing it. The thickness of the steel pick in my axe is 4mm, I designed the slot it fits into to be 4.5mm. The thickness of the bottom steel point in my axe is 3mm, I designed the slot in the cover to be 3.5mm. You can scale the model on the Z axis only, to fit thicker/thinner steel parts of your own axe. **EDIT:** I added a design for a carabiner for the elastic cord to keep the covers in place. **Please note that this carabiner is for this purpose only, and cannot be used for climbing even after scaling it to a bigger size!!! **
