Anycubic i3 Mega narrow and frictionless Spool Holder Mod
Description
I put my Anycubic i3 Mega in an IKEA housing ("STUVA" cabinet with "SINDVIK" glass door). The cabinet is relatively large, but with the printer in it, the remaining space for the spool and spool holder is limited. The original i3 Mega spool holder is not bad, as you can remove the spool upwards together with the axis on which it is mounted. However, the spool holder is too wide for this compartment and so I created a modification (2 new ribs) for it too make it more narrow: aprox. 90mm instead of 123mm. 90mm is still wide enough for all spools that I use. As I had to create a new axis for the narrow spool holder as well, I have simultaneously solved another problem that I had with the old one: friction. Sometimes the friction of the original axis to the spool holder was too high (especially when most of the filament was already consumend and the spool became light) and the spool was pulled towards the extruder together with the spool holder, which ultimately caused some printing fails. In some other cases the extruder motor could not overcome the friction of a new and heavy spool leading to that annoying "knock-knock-knock" sounding extruder fails. I had some cheap 608 ball bearings left, which I used for the design in order to solve those problems. Update: I have included a bushing which is used to keep the 5 bearings in place on the rod. Print the bushing 6 times when you are using 5 bearings like me and put them in the spaces between the bearings as well as between the bearings and the rod ends.
