Prusa Compact MMU2 Spool Holder

Prusa Compact MMU2 Spool Holder

Description

A compact spool holder for the Prusa MMU2 & MMU2S which automatically collects the unloaded filament in a secondary spool to prevent tangles. See video of operation: https://youtu.be/nxi6TSk1YOY This is based on [kommisar's fantastic MMU2 Spool Holder](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3228827) and can be printed on a single build plate. This version also has the spool holder number integrated as a multi-color print. ### Additional parts * 5 x 608 bearings * (optional) M3 x 10mm screw * (optional) 80mm PTFE Teflon tubing ### Printing For one spool holder, you'll need to print the following parts: * 1x MMU Spool Holder.stl (optionally, combined with a number and number bg) * 1x FilamentWheel.stl * 4x SpoolWheel.stl * 5x BearingAxle.stl (65% infill) * 5x BearingAxleCap.stl The spool holder has a track that is used to adjust the spool wheels in order to accommodate different sized filament spools. After printing, you might need to apply a bit of force to unstick the two parts so you can adjust it. There's a hole for an optional M3 screw that you can use as a set screw to stop it from moving around. Just be careful not to apply too much force with the screw or you'll deform the track. ### Printing with numbers If you want to print with a number using the MMU2, just combine the following files (in this example, we're printing #1): * MMU Spool Holder.stl * MMU-Number1-bg.stl * MMU-Number1.stl ### Wheels & Bearings Each wheel needs a 608 bearing inserted all the way in the hole in the center. Then put an axle through the bearing and put an axle cap on the other side. Now you can snap the wheel into a slot. ### Loading the filament When everything is printed and assembled, here's how to load load the filament spool on it. * Push the end of the PTFE teflon tube coming from the MMU2 unit into the hole on the back of the spool holder. Just push it until it's peaking out the other side. * Place your spool of filament on the wheels, with the loose end of the filament falling downward towards the front. * Take the end of the filament and thread it through the hole on the right side and under the filament wheel. * Loop the filament around the filament wheel twice. * Thread the filament into the PTFE teflon tube to the MMU2 unit. * Now keep thread it into the tube until it gets to the MMU2 unit.
