NEMA17 Geared Stepper Motor Adaptor Plate

NEMA17 Geared Stepper Motor Adaptor Plate

Description

This is an adaptor plate to upgrade a 2GN size gearbox to a Nema17 geared stepper motor. I am using this to upgrade the bed on my laser cutter from a manually controlled DC gear motor to a NEMA 17 geared stepper motor. This will allow the laser controller to auto-focus and adjust the height of the laser head during the cutting/engraving process. Slotted holes accept a bolt circle of 28-35mm on the stepper motor gearhead, 65.5-74.5mm for the gear motor. Offset of 10mm is maintained, making it possible to use the same pulleys and belt length of the original gear motor. I made this adaptor from two layers of black 1/8" cast acrylic, welded together with weld-on brand acrylic solvent. 1/8" was all I had on hand, but wanted it thicker due to the torque involved. Updated V2: I decided that 1/4" total thickness was overkill, so I cut a 36mm hole in one ply to recess the stepper into the plate. Also eleminated the slots and just cut holes to match the motors I have. V2 SVG has 3mm holes @ 28mm circle for stepper moter & 5mm holes @ 70mm circle, and has 36mm hole to "recess" stepper.
