Alternative Plunger for 20mm Syringe
Description
Having used my solder paste syringe now for about 2 & a half months, the plastic plunger finally broke due largely to the pressure needed and the fact that it was actually being so easily pushed sideways, obviously quite inadequate for long-term use. This meant that a steel/ much stronger shaft of some kind would be needed, onto which I would then need to place some customised (3D printed) elements. As most of these things are made merely for single-use, it was inevitably going to break - and at the built-in purposely-made fracture point! OK, so we understand that the reason for this is probably to avoid drug abuse, sure, but my purpose for the syringe is to apply the solder paste (which is sold in the syringe), to a printed curcuit board and complete a soldered circuit... Well anyway, when the syringe plunger broke, I had the nasty experience of part of the old plunger breaking off and piercing my left palm (see photo), a safety issue which others might also take into account if still using the same old single-use plungers with significant force. If using small guage needles with these syringes, much force is needed to push the paste through them, hence the original syringe holder project. By being able to hook one's thumb over the rounded handle as well as rotate it to suit, the comfort level is greatly increased due to the larger gripping area where pressure is applied. In addition to use for solder paste application, there are also potential users in the medical environment, who are constantly having to give injections such as vaccinations etc. Obviously there are hygiene considerations re. the sterility of the item, but these can be met by appropriate measures. No doubt however the nurses, vaccinators & others would appreciate the strain relief offered by the device. So now, here is a more complete solution...
