FidgetCube with Logo and text on the inside

FidgetCube with Logo and text on the inside

Description

V12 has a bigger gap which was needed to print it on an Elegoo Mars. Also learned to print it at an angle on the Elegoo mars, not flat. Fixed V11 should work better with customizer. This fidget cube uses a different kind of hinge than my previous fidget cube. This one offers more flat space to put text onto, and seems to operate quite nicely. For my printer setting the gap to 0.25 worked very well, but you might want to do some experiments with your printer. I found that slightly larger than the layer size (0.20) works well. The standard setup uses 4 rows of 2 cubes, but this allows other numbers of rows to be picked. I deliberately did not round off the corners of the cubes. Some might find this a little sharp, but I liked how it did not interfere as much with the logo and text. This takes a long time to render. I wanted to make a fidget cube with a lot of specialized options. On the top surface you can insert a logo, on the two outer sides you can put 2 words, and then after you fold it a few times the inner text will become visible. The logo needs to be a png file. It is best if it is 2 color, and it saves a lot of rendering time if you can reduce the number of pixels in it. I did find that some manual editing helps a lot because grey ends up being translated as a different height of plastic. I used some relatively simple editing tools but had to do it in several steps, unfortunately I did not record them. If you want it to render faster then you can set image1 to be false to hide the image. When you are ready to position the image then set testImage to true so that the hinges are not printed, it makes the rendering much faster. Setting text3, text4 and/or text5 to empty strings will also speed up the rendering. I just added a blank STL file with no text and no image.
