5x2mm Disc Magnet Hole Tester
Description
This is a small block with different hole sizes to test how much bigger the magnet holes in my models need to be in order for a disc magnet to fit in the final print. Im testing with 5x2 mm magnets, but the CAD model can be easily adjusted to other magnet sizes on Onshape: https://cad.onshape.com/documents/6b3954b6c5ec6e5c690a5d29/w/59b4fd7f81be094b582ee74b/e/1e8a4d3f75e408a6198c0d83 I made it thicker than it needs to be so any warping of the print wont affect the magnet holes. The magnet holes have different diameters (+0.1mm, +0.2mm, +0.3mm, +0.4mm). The magnet hole depths are all 2.2mm, the extra 0.2mm makes them flush with the surface. For a 0.2mm layerheight print with the holes on the up-side, I find the magnets fit and can slip out again at +0.3mm, anything below that you have to force them in. Flipping the model on the side so it is printed with the holes on the side gives a slightly different result: now the magnet needs to be forced at least a bit in all the holes and probably wont go in to the 0.1 hole at all. Conclusion: the best width seems to be magnet width +0.3mm for a snug gluable fit on both top holes and side holes. Loctite 401 should glue them in just fine.
