MVX Horn RB Speaker Base Neck and Bell
Description
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eeXilT7PfUQ I have been recreating these for customers for over 20 years. Some have been hand formed from soft steel, aluminum, cast resin, and injection mold. I changed up the drawings (AutoCad 11 don't make fun) to a Fusion 360 base and cleaned up a bit for FDM and easier part fitment. I could provide super detailed instructions but these are the base. Every time I make one it is different per customer specs, so, one set of drawings doesn't fit all. The bell I printed with a .8 nozzle, because, well, I hate waiting when I can hog plastic out much faster. The Bell and Neck halves all print well, and quickly with no supports at a .2-.3 height. I don't really worry about surface finish as I spend quite a bit of time in finishing and always use different materials. For example, some of the early horns from this period had a really really thick wrinkle finish, some had smooth black bakelite finishes, some had steel. The base is up to you, I make mine by hand from wood, just like the originals, or exotics by request. Inside the speaker base I use one of two speakers, 2" or 3" heavy magnet. The sound is period accurate by using a funnel shape baffle (with the speaker mounted between the baseplate and the baffle). Sound is compressed in the baffle then expands up through the neck and out the bell, exactly like the original base design using an fixed electromagnet (no affixed voice coil). I drive them with either small pcb mono amplifier or a tube mono block 40-or-so watt amplifier. Just make sure you calculate your impedence correctly. Last but not least, two necks are included, one has a raked step (bell angled up, kind of like original edison design) or the Magnavox styled balanced neck (I find this neck to be superior, epecially with the weight handling) If you so choose, a simple search will turn up several places to purchase the magnavox decal replacements. These guys do a really good job, some of them are printed in metal foil with true white that really looks great. Again, apologies if i missed anything in the conversions. I don't believe I did, but, famous last words. Still trying to figure out how to get the video in here. - NOTE - the bottom trim ring for the base has a artifact in it, but it prints just fine. If you have kids or a dog, chase them around talking to them through this, or, stick them in your ears like Bloodbath McGrath from Wild Wild West. All fun and games.
