Eflite Opterra 1.2m Landing Gear addition.

Eflite Opterra 1.2m Landing Gear addition.

Description

This is an add-on for the E-flite 1.2 meter Opterra flying wing to add landing gear for ground takeoff /landing. It's designed to require zero permanent modifications to the plane. The mounts are held on with 3m outdoor mounting tape. It requires: 1) 9 gram servo (metal gear probably a good idea) 2) 3/32 piano wire 3) small screws 4) Hobbyzone steering arm: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01G9FPK86 5) Parkzone T28 nose wheel https://www.amazon.com/ParkZone-Nose-Gear-Set-T-28/dp/B000PE4J6W if you are not making your own nose wheel gear. 6) 3m outdoor mounting tape: https://www.amazon.com/Heavy-Duty-Exterior-Mounting-Tape-Holds/dp/B00004Z4BV The mini apprentice nose gear might also work, but it's shorter than the T-28 nose wheel and might not have enough height.: https://www.amazon.com/HobbyZone-Nose-Gear-Mini-Apprentice/dp/B01GKGM3I4 For wheels I used 3 leftover parkzone wheels that are found on just about all their small planes: trojan, cub, mini apprentice etc. the rear mount can be printed without support if printed in normal orientation. the nose wheel mount needs support everywhere and should be printed bottom-up. The rear wire should tilt slightly back so the wheels are just below the notch and the plane sits on all 3 wheels without battery in. (New Nose Gear Mount V2) I redesigned the nose wheel mount. the old mount worked, but being off center resulted in the plane being very tippy to the right. The new design puts the nose wheel as far forward and on the centerline as possible. It still mounts with tape just like the old one. It weighs about 2 grams more than the old but for the cost of the weight it is stronger, and provides a slightly more stable ground handling experience. (old) ------------------ The nose gear mount should be parallel with the top of the black "keel" of the plane when mounted. It would probably also work if it was mounted right at the start of the black keel. ------------------ If your are adding this to the "Safe+" model of the Opterra then you need to add a 2nd receiver for the nose gear as the built in receiver does not forward the rudder channel out of the flight controller. The receiver must be: DSMX 22ms To install a 2nd receiver: 1) Run a servo jumper with signal wire removed from slot 4 or 5 on the flight controller to the elevator channel of the 2nd receiver. 2) plug nose gear into the rudder channel of the 2nd receiver. 3) plug bind plug into both the flight controller and 2nd receiver 4) bind following standard procedure 5) unplug both bind plugs.
