Description

First of all visit my blog to find out more about this project. If you download this case I only ask for your feedback in the comments section and if you found my design useful, please donate what you think it is worth to my paypal account to help cover the months of time to design the case - https://www.paypal.me/kirkdis I hope this case helps to make the NanoPi M4 a more famous NAS solution. (btw I´m not paid or sponsored by them.) Thanks, Enjoy! more details on this case: http://scheisser.net/?cat=257 and related thread in the OpenMediaVault Forum https://forum.openmediavault.org/index.php?thread/29089-nanonas-nanopi-m4-3-bay-or-4-bay-most-compact-and-low-consumption-raid/ Find a shopping list for all parts @ www.scheisser.net http://scheisser.net/?p=7670 -------------------------DESCRIPTION-------------------------------------- This project hopefully ends with a case for a Nanopi M4 based NAS with Sata-hat and 3 4TB Seagate 2.5" drives with Raid5. The goal is to design an all printable and stable case as compact as possible. Until now the NAS is working like a charm and only consumes less than 7W in idle and max up to 20W in full load. The missing piece is a printable, durable and easy to produce case for all the components. The Sata cables look so weird and there is no safety for the components. I was looking for a tiny case available globally so everybody can copy it but after chasing for a suitable case for 2 months now I ended up designing it by myself. Due to less time this takes a little longer and I wanted to tease you with the results I actually achieved. It won´t be finished by tomorrow but I have a plan how it may look like in the end. 2020-05-10 UPDATE: updated the file naming. For a full set of parts you have to print the two files for the 4 or 3 bay version plus the two all_version files. The top case and fanmount fits both the 3 and 4bay case... 2019-11-23 UPDATE: so much downloads but not quite much feedback... did it work out for you guys? Where are the make posts? Interested in some color combinations. Still asking for feedback and improvement. Thanks! 2019-07-11 UPDATE: Have an idea now how it finally will look like. All issues I ran into seem solved now. Today I´m printing a first baseplate prototype with 15mm high walls for the harddrives. Attached new screenshots. Nothing final for now but the high level shape is set. ground plate measures are around 132*85mm so nearly every printer out there should be capable to print the case. 2019-07-17 UPDATE: Worked a little bit on the base and the top case. I want to make it as simple as possible. At the moment I´m aiming for a 2 piece case design - one for the Nanopi M4 and one piece for the drives. Added a new screenshot of the top case with the connector cutouts. 2019-09-06 UPDATE: I designed new disc mounts to fit the top case stable to the drives. Uploaded the STL. Recommend to print it in TPU due to vibration damping but PLA or other materials should work also. Added a few screenshots and photos of the top case prototype but it is not final yet. 2019-10-06 UPDATE: redesigned the drive mounts because I realized the top case won´t be durable enough due to some design problems. I´m quite short in time but I´ll try my best to finish the design within this month... I´m still struggling with the cooling. As the SATA hat needs an active cooling I have to implement this inside the case. The case was designed from begin on to have an active cooling for the drives and the controller boards but to make it effective I need to build a convenient and easy to use solution. 2019-10-07 New photos posted of the inside fan mount designed and printed yesterday - all fits nice... in addidition I redesigned the drive mounts again. that´s why the old fanmount stl is gone now... As I´m for a trip in Peru and Ecuador in November I actually feel a little bit more pressure to spent time for finishing this case. 2019-10-08 uploaded new photos of the case with air vent. 2019-10-13 first case printed and all works like a charm... what else than this case do you need? -nanopi m4 -sata hat -external power supply -50x50x15mm fan (mine is a 12V 0.08W silent spinner) -sata cables -molex splitting wire for power supply with sata connectors -3 2.5" harddrives (Seagate ST4000LM024-2AN1) -OpenMediaVault Nanopi image -sd card 2019-10-23 updated design with a 4-bay HDD enclosure and HDD mounts as this was requested by the community a few times. Now you have the choice to build a 3-bay or 4-bay case and use all SATA ports of the SATA hat. Attention all energy measures taken before are only related to my 3-bay version. The consumption will increase with an additional drive...
