2AM Camera Tripod

2AM Camera Tripod

Description

I designed this collapsible tripod at 2 AM one morning when I couldn't sleep. Everything else in the photography world is expensive - a simple tripod doesn't need to be. Existing designs were short and not sturdy enough to hold my heavy zoom lens. I use this as a compact alternative to a full pod when I hike. It's holds the camera 12" high when fully expanded, and is 9" long when folded. _________________________________ What you need to print: 3x large legs 3x small legs 3x brackets 3x nuts 1x head 1x carrier 1x shaft Optional - 1x whatever swivel mount you choose (see below) 4x - 1/4"-20 x 5/8" length HEX bolts and nuts are needed to attach the leg extensions, and to attach a camera or swivel mount to the top. This is a common size in the US - check your local hardware store. Steps to assemble: 1. Snap the 3 brackets to the carrier with the corner chamfers all facing the same direction. 2. Slide the shaft through the carrier, starting from the non-chamfered side of brackets. 3. Set the shaft into the indention on the head and bolt together (use a nut to hold it place for now). 4. Snap the legs to the head, then to the brackets. 5. Press metal bolts through the printed 'nuts,' and press metal nuts into the small legs. 6. Screw the small legs to the assembly - viola! _________________________________ I paired this with walter's Mini Tripod ball head, found here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1165406 Print the ball and whatever mount you plan to use with it, then screw it to the top. He's got mounts for a standard camera or cell phone. This additionally requires: M4 x 50mm length hex bolt M4 nut 1/4"-20 x 3/8" length hex bolt (for standard cameras) Happy snapping!
