Universal Air Assist Nozzle for Laser Cutters by Acclaim Crafts

Description

I got tired of uneven through-cuts with my diode lasers, so set out to fix it. This Air Assist Nozzle combines with a small diameter pipe (1/4" or 6-ish mm), some sort of air compressor or pump, and hosing to deliver high velocity air to a laser's focal point to increase its cutting efficiency. Because of its diminutive size and modular design, I imagine you could get it to fit whatever you're driving. There are three mounting brackets from which to choose, depending on your setup. Also, there are three nozzle types: one with small holes converging the air at .5" beneath the nozzle, one with holes shooting the air straight down, and one with slots blowing down. I'm using a 950 GPH (60L/min) aquarium air pump to push the one with the holes, and it works great! The slotted version will likely require a bit more oomph to be as effective. (See updates, below.) If you're interested, you can learn more about the device and its evolution, get tips on installation, and view loads of pictures by visiting https://www.acclaimcrafts.com/acclaim-air-assist-nozzle-for-laser-cutting.html I used both Cura's (v4.2.1) and Simplify3D's (v4.1.2) default settings for the most part, with a .2 mm layer height and an arbitrary 40% infill, but I don't guess anything is mandatory. You'll just want enough material so it won't collapse or explode. :-) I'd love to hear what you think of this thing and whether or not it works for you. Thanks a million, and happy cutting! UPDATES (newest first): *** 20200520 *** I just uploaded a .step file for those who need it. If it reveals my FreeCAD ineptitude, kindly ignore it. :-) *** 20190824 *** I redesigned the nozzle by adding a 1/8" high by 3/4" diameter flange to the bottom, onto which we can attach any size laser shield we desire. To avoid the need for supports, there are two versions with the hole for the setscrew on opposing sides. (The one shown in the pic is for the down-pipe mounted to the left of the laser.) Get the one that makes the most sense for where your laser is mounted. Also, flip and slice the sucker with the air holes facing up. *** 20190809 *** I'd like to thank Mouss Arena (@Mouss32) for getting me to revisit an idea that I had abandoned. Of the three nozzles in this set, the Focused Air one (marked with an F) seems to clear the kerf best. Also, there is significantly less charring on the top with it, making for a much sharper looking cut. Thanks, Mouss! (The focal point for the air is .5" under the nozzle.)
