UPDATE: 11/18/2019 So, Finally got this thing tested out. As suspected, the steps did not need adjusting from the original X,Y and Z. The Bulldog E-Steps are the same. And, it works!! Really good too. This is the next step in design testing and eventually I will use this on my scratch built 3D printer. Also printed a part for my other printer, 4 hours, no creep and it worked well. Still need to do some slicer fine tuning on this new head, but all in all, it worked better than I had hoped. I am really proud of this one. I have spent a lot of time getting this one to work. After 4 previous iterations, I present the ScrapHeap Direct Drive Hotend. It takes the place of this: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3552712 which works great, but I am always thinking of ways to do better. Assembly is pretty self explanatory and up to you how you want to wire it in. I wanted to have a means of disconnecting the entire head and operate on it as needed without the wires. The addition of the 14 Pin Molex Connector accomplishes this. Design Parameters: 1. Modular a. I want to have several of these, interchangeable, with different nozzles and set-ups so I only have to change the Z-Offset in the terminal. 2. Easy attachment to the X rail 3. Easily printable with no supports 4. Under $60 5. Utilize the E3D V6 all metal hotend 6. All 24V 7. Rugged and Reliable 8. Minimize offset from BL Touch to Nozzle 9. Look Cool I think I have achieved this. I will be posting print pictures as I calibrate everything, but the Bulldog is 107 steps. When setting up the BL Touch, X = -25.5, Y=0 My main concern with all of this was the close proximity of the hot parts to the cooling duct and the bottom of the X-Gantry. With the addition of the Silicone Sock, there does not seem to be an issue. A laser thermometer reads at 50C with the head at 205C. The only real danger is the first layer when the part cooling fan is off. Once it's on, there is no worries. In the coming days and weeks, I will post videos of the assembly, set-up and tuning.
