Human powered Planetary Gear Fan
Description
Update: Thingiverse was being flakey again, redownload the carrier.stl Another human powered fan! I dunno why I'm so obsessed with making them, I suppose they are just low hanging fruit... either way here it is. The planetary gears are stack-able, so if you want the fan to spin faster, print more gear-stacks to add to the cluster. I found that 3 is might be the realistic limit as it takes some force and that is a pretty long crank handle for leverage. The fan, carrier, adapter and crank require supports. You'll need four 3/8ths bolts that are 4in long, 4 nuts.Don't tighten up the bolt that holds the sun gears too much, you need those to spin freely. When assembling the planet gears to the carrier, they are snap fit, I found that compressing the tangs on the studs by pushing the gears on a slight angle and giving a twist helped in getting them. Note that the all the planet gears need to all face the proper direction! Once the planet gears on the carrier, you'll have to manhandle and force the carrier and gears into the ring gear. But once in they should spin pretty freely, least they did for me, your printers tolerances and horizontal expansion might lead to poorer (or even better) results. You've been warned! End result? It works, learned a lot and was fun. Only reason I needed to do anything.
