Griffin Pro Spring extruder

Griffin Pro Spring extruder

Description

An improved extruder for all Griffins, however not an easy part to make. This allows use of a generic Hobb eliminating the need for the Griffin brass hobb. This has more grip and if printed really slow can sometimes even tolerate flexible filaments. Griffin Pro https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3867364 Building this requires a 1/8 NPT thread tap to tap the large hole on the idler, the trheads are in place they just rarely print well. An alternate method is to disassemble your bowden fitting to remove the o-ring, then use the base of it to create threads by heating it with a lighter while holding it with pliers(!) and threading it into the idler. Use caution to not get burned. Also make sure to clean out all the holes with a drill bit or ream. The hole for the idler bearing bolt also could use a tap but can be skipped either by just drilling it out or heating a bolt and threading it in. Sorry, no real instructions but not difficult to assemble as there is only 3 parts really. Bolt the main onto a geared stepper using 2x m3x20's. The small tongue should face away from the motor creating an overhang (just like how it sits in Thingiverse, just imagine the motor under it. Insert an M5 nut into the hex hole in the idler, now Insert the "insert" into the hole you inserted the nut, flat face first. From the other side thread in an M5x15 bolt so it just touches the insert. Insert the spring into the hex hole and index it to the peg on the insert. Slide the idler under the ledge/overhang and insert a third M3x20mm bolt and light snug it up, the assembly should rock. Make sure the spring indexes the main body properly. Insert the original idler bearing and bolt into the slot and hole. Mount the whole thing to your Griffin using two M5x15mm bolts. Parts required for this if upgrading a Griffin Pro: 3x M5x15 1x Ultimaker printer bed bed spring (search Amazon) 1 WINSINN 3D Printer Drive Gear 40 Tooth 8mm Bore Stainless Steel extruder wheel (check amazon) If you are not replacing a Griffin Pro extruder and want to use this you will also need : 1x M5x15 1x 625zz bearing 3 M3x20mm bolts 1x Hydraulic fitting I believe it is Mcmaster-Carr #5148K121 While tested, I marked this as work in progress due to lack of documentation and support.
