Fluval Spec 5 Aquarium Glass Lid Rails Mod
Description
The plastic lid that comes with the Fluval Spec 5 Aquarium is extremely lacking. It doesn't have anything keeping it in place and has a long, open slit down the length of it that your fish can either jump out of, or your cat get in to. I designed and printed these rails you can attach to both sides, and have a pane of glass or plexiglass cut at your local hardware store to fit. Use aquarium safe marine glue to attach them to the inside of the tank (pictured). I had the 3/32" (2.4mm) thick glass pane cut to 19 5/16" x 7". The 7" depth leaves about 1/4" overhang, so adjust down if you don't want that. If you leave a little overhang it gives you something to grab on to to slide it open/close. 1/8" or 3.2mm thick glass MIGHT fit as there is some wiggle room with 3/32", but I won't give any guarantees as I didn't try it. The height the rails rest at also leaves a very small gap between the glass lid and the tank glass, just enough for a little airflow but not enough for snails and the like to get out.
