6 Square Pyramids and a Cube

6 Square Pyramids and a Cube

Description

I created a 3-D model to help students visualize why the volume of a right rectangular pyramid is: V=lwh/3 (Volume=area of the base x height/3) Since you need 6 identical pyramids to fill the cube, which is twice the height of the Pyramid, therefore you would need half as many (3) to fill half the space. The holes were designed for assembling the pyramids into a cube after 3D printing. You can create hinges to attach the pyramids, and/or embed magnets that hold the pieces together. Understanding this concept allows one to create more interesting puzzles and models. This animation shows the concept. https://youtu.be/dj2D6nhhR2g?list=PL8hOMaxQfgvUSs1-2jXHE227ctxey2lmh
