Various OLED screen holders/adapters for Gotek FDD emulator
Description
The Gotek FDD emulator is a wonderful device, but it lacks the proper screen by default. Luckily the Chinese market offers those small OLED screens for 1.20 Euro or 1.5$ a piece: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32712441521.html There are 2 ways to install the screens into Gotek - on top of its case (to be viewed from the top) in either fixed or flexible position and inside the emulator's case (to be viewed from the front). It depends on where the emulator is installed in a computer. See the pictures for the installation examples into 2 different Yamaha MSX2 computers. When installing the screen outside of the Gotek's case in flexible position (the screen can be rotated 180 degrees), a 8mm hole needs to be drilled in the top part of the Gotek's case (see the image for Method 1). The screen with the attached wires and enclosed into the 2-part frame is installed by pushing the frame's pin into the drilled hole. The pin is then secured with a locking ring to limit its vertical movement as shown on the included image. When installing the screen outside of the Gotek's case in fixed position, a 6mm hole needs to be drilled in the top part of the Gotek's case (see the image for Method 2). The screen with the attached wires and enclosed into the 2-part frame is installed by pushing the frame's pins into the 2 holes - the original screw hole and the newly-drilled one. You may want to put a small piece of 2-sided tape under the screen to attach to the top of the case. When needed, the screen could be easily removed. The original 3-digit screen of the emulator may stay in its place or it can be replaced with the special plug that carries the MSX logo (MSX logo's copyright belongs to its respective owner). When installing the screen outside of the case, no other case modifications are required. When installing the screen inside the Gotek's case, the case needs to be modified a bit. The 2 ledges on the inner side of the front panel need to be completely removed. Also a 2 mm wide piece must be cut away from the screen holder that is located on the emulator's top cover. Please note that if you remove the ledges, you won't be able to properly install the plug with the MSX logo (in case you change your mind and want to install the screen outside). So, before cutting the ledges, please make sure that you really want to install the screen inside the case. See the printing instructions for more info. Sorry for the deformed images - somehow Thingiverse lost the ability to scale them properly. There's nothing I can do about this.
