Sandmann Lunochod TV edition
Description
Last edit: 11.Januar 2020 (did some clean up work) The Lunochod (moon rover) for Sandmännchen (born 1959 in the GdR). Picture of one of the real models on exhibition: https://cdn.mdr.de/meine-heimat/sandmann-3992-resimage_v-variantBig1xN_w-1472.jpg -- This is my take on remaking a scaled down Sandmann TV Lunochod made in the GdR. The Sandmännchen Lunochod (moon rover) and a story, to learn from history. Sandmännchen Lunochod TV edition original on display https://abload.de/img/sandmanninlunochod1gjgg.png You can choose frome two styles of the base frame. - the boxed shape frame, designed similar as seen on the Sandmann TV Lunochod. - the Lunokhodish (on the moon) shaped frame, now thing 4041376. Discontinued A few compromises had to be made. It is not an exact copy of the real thing on TV. GdR/DDR-Museum has collected many artifacts. Sandmann riding the Lunochod and the Lander depicted on a plate. https://www.ddr-museum.de/objectdatabase/daphne/3/34209.full.jpg We wanted to grow up peacefully minded poeple, true and upright walking humans. We DID exactly this, with the help of Sandmann. All time favorit, poeples (young and older of course ) comrade since 60 years. https://abload.de/img/sandmannwinkt5rjl1.png Celebration of the 60th aniversary. https://www.sandmann.de/elternseite/beitraege/sandmann60.html Thanks, all credit goes to the makers of the cute Sandmann https://abload.de/img/sandmannteam8.novembe9dku3.jpg Born at the public TV station DDR Fernsehen, Studio Berlin-Adlershof. It was located in the German Democratic Republic In short the abbreviation GdR. . The Sandmännchen is a political man. He is THE ambassador of peacefull living. He should be honord with Stockholm peace prize and the UN peace medaille. Its mission is to teach the children to live in way where poeple respect each other, love and help each other, do not go on war, do not exploiting other poeples work shamelesly. Since day One the Sandmännchen teaches the kids to make human communities, live, work and share the fun together. . The past, when the Sandmann helped to form friendly minded young poeple. Exactly this was the plan. It worked perfectly. . Poeple were educated, lived active lifes (not consuming products only), created their own things, wrote novels, their own books, read those books worth to read, played roles in nonprofessional theaters, did sports, explored the natur, made technics, painted paintings, created sculpture, shot pictures, some developed their pictures at home laboratory , made videos on 8mm film, flown planes, made RC-models,.......... Millions of families did gardening, they created small homes on small pieces of land where they relaxed on the weekend and spent weeks on the vacation. Endless list, MUCH more to tell. The past, Once up in a time. But it is not a fairy tale. The poeple in MY country were FREE from the sorrow how to make a living. We were free from those nasty fears i.e. - to become poor, - not being able to pay the rent - becoming homeless, live on the street, - not being able to pay the medicine or a even a doctor - not being able to pay school fees, there was nothing of that - .... Nothing of the nasty stuff that let poeple fear in a dangerous world nowadays. If you have not known or whitnessed where those thing were done, it was in MY country,my homeland the former GdR. Some dumb and hatefull poeple have axed the continuition of developing the human society, making a better life in a better world. Even after the socalled revolution, there was a chance to make progress. Gone. Back to the old style f*** capitalism. I tell from my own experience, I made living half of my life in the postacapitalistical society. I do the comparision. I make a reasonably well founded judgement. The Lunochod, soviet moon rover, facts - Look here: A huge collection of space artefacts at manufacturers museum, named after Mr. S.A. Lavotshkin http://kik-sssr.ru/10.7.10_In_space_museum.htm https://yadi.sk/a/KyzQX-QC3Z7epH The Lunochod1, the first remote controlled moon rover started November 1970. "During its 322 Earth days of operations (on the moon), Lunokhod 1 travelled 10,540 metres (6.55 miles) and returned more than 20,000 TV images and 206 high-resolution panoramas." . Read this short article about the real Lunochod rover on the moon. https://www.airspacemag.com/space/the-other-moon-landings-6457729/ There are many videos on YT HQ rendering animated https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bk1eV_3tLPQ https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=qAObNU_sXqU https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=BGztzApD7ys . How the Sandmann Lunochod was made. - https://abload.de/img/sandmanninlunochod1gjgg.png The antennas could be made from wires. The antenna on the right side made from a nail and a strip of metall, by chance cut from metal box (Weissblech). The gripper, ladder, sensors have arms with a ball welded to the end of a rod. The ball ends are mounted between clamp made from two bars. Tightened up with a screw. Still a valid system today. The Sandmann Lunochod has a very simple chassis made from a squared box. The suspension are made from flat brackets. (two freely tilting lever arms). The wheels are mounted pairwise onto the suspensions. The holes on the brackets are worn out over the time. Probably made from plywood. The wheels hubs are made from simple rods with hole. I would bet the holes have no thread. The wheels have a few spokes going from the hub to the thin flats made from Streckmetall (hollowed mesh). Probably soldered or glued on. If made from brass they could be hard soldered on. The method used by plumbers, no low temperatur melting elctronics solder wire used. Obviously all scews are M3. At the time the screwheads were flat lenstype or countersunk, the heads slotted. Unfortunaly the original Sandmann TV Lunochod does not fit the original Lunochod shape perfectly. - The "hight to diameter size" ratio on the cabine (top to bottom edge) is much different. It should be more beveled. - On the TV Lunochod the boxed frame short sides end at the outer perimeter of the intermediate disk. - The ratio length to width of the whole wheelset differs much. The distance between the two lines on of the wheelsets (Spurweite) is much smaller than on the original. The TV Lunochod design limits the allowed movement of the wheels with the suspension brackets up and down. They can touch the underside of the cabine. No problem on a TV recording studio set. The big Lunochod on moon has much more headroom. By reducing the disk sice to the width of the base frame it gives the wheeles a little more free space. The mid section of the ring makes a standoff instead of the omitted intermediate ring. It leaves a noticable gap between the cabine and the frame. For my other Sandmann space thing see https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4015527 Source of the clear canopy / dome 70mm DE https://www.modulor.de/polystyrol-kugel-transparent-hohl-zweiteilig-70-mm.html EN https://www.modulor.de/en/polystyrene-sphere-transparent-hollow-two-piece-oe-70-mm.html Source of the Sandmann figurine (part of small Lunochod modell) https://www.axse-shop.de/epages/61724364.sf/de_DE/?ObjectPath=/Shops/61724364/Products/ATL71114 Construction principles, details parts count reduced - wheels (8x) - suspensions (4x) - boxed frame (1x) - connector lower part, the doublesided flanged ring (1x) - cabine (1x) - connector top part, it makes the chair mount (1x) - console adapter ring (1x) - This is not an exact copy of the Sandmann Lunochod. Some pictures can be found but plans are not available. They must exist in treasures. The story tells the inventor made exact plans, sketches on paper. Since we have no blueprints this is the next reachable source apart from the USSR original drawings, can be downloaded somewhere (Open sourced i guess). Keep it simple. Assembling - Free the figurine from the Lunochod modell. See the picture. Drill / cut through four tabs (red circles). Two starts are hidden (see the residues after cutting - the blue circles). See the picture, it shows how the parts stack up. Fasten both parts by using a screw for plastics 2mm or M3 with nut, new parts vailable. A screw of 20mm thread lengt holds everything together. When using a regular M3 maschine screw take more care on bringing up the holes before cramming the screw trough. -Feed in the screw from the underside of the boxed frame. -Go through the adapter and the bottom of the cabine. -Put the chair base on. -Tighten up the screw. READ THIS, some important DOs and DO NOTs On the wheels hubs 2.4mm metric screws work perfectly fine. Do not cut threads in the suspension holes. But allways predrill / ream the holes gently by hand. Do not apply force. It could break the small parts or the mount tabs on the base frame. All wheels and suspension brackets sufficiently moveable with no big play or much wiggle. -All 4 suspension brackets connected with the frame using M3 screws now. Tap the threads into the holes carefully. It has a little cut depth only. Fixed -If not needed do not drill/ cut trough the hubs on the wheels. .
