Leviathans Game Proxy HML Raven

Leviathans Game Proxy HML Raven

Description

Leviathans is a steampunk wargame/boardgame published in 2012 and now ot of print. The game is based on a steampunk science fiction idea of a “levitating fluid” that makes possible flying ironclads, AKA Leviathans, in a 1905-1910 setting/. The game included a set of miniatures for eight ships. The rules are available online but the boxed sets with the minis are only available as collectors items on sites like Ebay. I am now working on a set of proxy models for the game. Designed for FDM/FFF printing. Here is my first attempt. A stand-in for HML (His Majesty’s Leviathan, of course) Raven. A D-class destroyer. I couldn't get Thingiverse to accept a picture in the main post without squishing it, randomly rotating it or both. To see what the model really looks like go to the make. Click on the squished make preview to go to the make page. It's the same file but only the make page shows it correctly. This is a work in progress. The current version is hard to assemble. The forward superstructure/bridge doesn’t fit the mounting posts; you could try to rework it but I just broke the posts off and used glue. The turrets and aft superstructure fit as printed on a well tuned Prusa MK2. You may have to fiddle with X/Y compensation or just cut the posts off and glue The masts should be printed flat with no supports. If your printer won’t handle the braces cut them off; it is almost impossible to remove supports from a piece that thin. The masts must be glued in place. The mounting hole for the foremast is too small and in the wrong place. Glue the mast to the back of the superstructure. You will have to trim the bottom of the mast to make the brace go all the way down or use a drop of glue as a filler at the bottom of the brace. The mounting hole for the aft mast is too large; fill with glue and hold the mast upright while the glue sets. The hole in the hull was for a mounting post on the trim tanks but they printed much better without the post; bend slightly and glue in place. I have included the original .3mf design files to make it easier to modify. The rules for the game are available here: https://www.8nations.info/ Go to the Leviathans Legacy Vault. The downloads section is for his expansion rules. You can try the game using paper cutout proxies. The quick start rules are called the Lieutenants Manual and have rules for substituting for the special dice used in the original game. If you like the game why not help and design some of the proxies.
