Edge Pro Upgrades

Description

Updated - 4 April 2021 This is a scissors sharpening attachment, chisel sharpening attachment, large blade attachment and knife guide for the Edge Pro Apex Sharpening system. I also added a fine tuning adapter for micro adjustments of your sharpening angles, and a retractable magnetic holder. (Note: For the Edge Pro "Clone" Chinese version, you will need to use my file number "8 - Clone Edge Pro Base", it is slightly different to the original Edge Pro) This system is able to sharpen scissors between the range of approximately 13-45 degrees, which covers basically all angles required for various types of scissors. Chisels can be sharpened with my chisel attachment. Measure the sharpening angle from the bottom of your chisel blade level, then adjust down for your angle. All Individual Parts for separate printing are in separate files. Print all parts in PLA or similar plastic that will not shrink at all. The tolerances need to be exact for the prints. I highly recommend a strip of rubberised tape for the inside of all clamps for a very secure grip. (I use "ISC Racers Tape" / helicopter tape) Also stick a piece of it over the magnets after you've glued them into place. This will protect your blades, give it extra grip and make cleaning the magnet surface easy. Parts Needed: (NOTE: All metric size M4 parts can be substituted with imperial size 8-32 parts.) 9 x M4 brass threaded inserts 4 x M4 Knurled Thumb screws (Lengths - 3x10mm and 1x15mm - for scissors clamp) 2 x M4 screws 20mm long (For attaching the scissors clamp / large blade adapter / chisel attachment / vertical knife support guide) 2 x M4 screws 30mm long (For the clamp part of the chisel attachment) 1 x M4 screw 10mm long and 1 M4 washer - This is for additional front support of my base onto the edge pro base if required. View my photos for the positions of your brass inserts. Install M4 brass threaded melt-in inserts in the 2 holes in the platform side of the clamp and for the 1 centre hole in the table platform (where the 3-point knife guide attaches to). Also insert 1 x M4 brass threaded melt-in insert into the larger bottom hole of the scissors clamp, and insert 2 x M4 brass threaded inserts into the 2 larger top holes of the chisel attachment. 1 x M4 brass insert installed in the file tuning adapter. 1 x M4 brass insert installed in the bottom, front recess hole of the main unit (Used for anchoring the front of the main body from the bottom of your Edge Pro Apex with a 10mm M4 screw and washer.) 3 Neodymium magnets are forced into the recess holes (Glue them in securely with a tiny bit of epoxy glue. Magnet size 12mmx3mm round. For the retractable magnet mount, you will need 1 Neodymium magnet 20mmx20mmx10mm. For more information on this item, also see: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4542153 If you want to use the Large Blade attachment, then you will need 6 additional neodymium magnets - also 12mmx3mm round. Simply remove your original adjustable knife guide plate from your Edge Pro Apex, and replace it with my platform. The Scissors clamp attachment can be used as follows: (See my photos) Note - The bottom hole is for cantilever tightening the clamp as described below. Lightly tighten the top 2 screws to position your scissor blade in place, and then tighten the bottom screw (The bottom screw should be the only hole to have a brass insert on the inside of the scissors clamp, so it basically then opens up the bottom of the clamp when you tighten the bottom thumb screw, effectively forcing the top closed in a cantilever fashion on your scissors blade to hold it securely in place for sharpening. When used correctly, it works very well and holds your scissors in place securely. UPDATES: 15 July 2020 - I added an adjustable vertical knife support for high flat ground knives that are not stable on the edge pro platform. Remove the scissors clamp part and replace it with the vertical knife support when needed. 13 October 2020 - I added a Large Blade attachment that can be used to sharpen longer kitchen or other knives. You will need 6 extra neodymium (12mmx3mm magnets for it) 7 January 2021 - I designed a chisel sharpening attachment for my system. It can simply be screwed into the same holes as the other attachments. 7 January 2021 - I added a Fine Tuning adapter to allow for extremely accurate micro adjustment in your sharpening angle. The base part of it attaches to your vertical rod, and the top part screws up and down to accurately adjust your sharpening angle guide up or down. 7 January 2021 - I added an Extra version of the Base for the Edge Pro CLONE Chinese version. The base is slightly different, so if you do not have an original Edge Pro Apex, then you will need to use the File "8 - Clone Edge Pro Base" file for your base. 30 March 2021 - Updated the Fine Tuning adapter for easier printing. 5 April 2021 - I enlarged the magnet recess holes slightly to compensate for slight inconsistencies in magnet sizes from different suppliers. 5 April 2021 - I added a retractable magnetic holder that mounts on the bottom (inside) of the Edge Pro Apex, between the front legs. 8 April 2021 - I added 1 extra 5mm hole in the bottom of my base. This is for a small M4 10mm long screw and washer to screw into place after you have installed my base onto your edge pro Apex. It is just for additional support if required.
