Funky Switch PCB and Knobs

Funky Switch PCB and Knobs

Description

*WARNING WARNING WARNING: Because of the electromechanical operation of the Alps switch, a directional push will activate both the directional input and the push input. Thus, the directional pushes will not work in sims that do not recognize multiple button presses without a controller board that modifies directional pushes to only activate one input (none commercially available that I know of at this moment). This funky switch breakout board has only been tested so far in iRacing and works great within that sim. I have only tested this breakout board with Leo Bodnar controller boards (BBI-32, BU0836A with breakout, and uBBI).* The attached circuit board files and knobs can be used to create a "funky switch" when paired with a 7-function switch. The funky switch combines a rotary encoder, pushbutton, and 4 directional buttons into one switch. This is ideal for sim racing purposes (such as navigating black boxes in iRacing). 7-function switch can be found here: https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/688-RKJXT1F42001 The Attached files include .sch and .brd files for the PCBs as well as .step and .stl files for the knobs. I designed the knobs to use 2.5mm set screws which require a 1.3mm hex key. 2.5mm set screw (I don't remember the lengths needed, but 3-5mm should work): https://www.mcmaster.com/91390a095 1.3mm hex key: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003ES5MDU/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Also, one of the knobs uses o-rings for added grip, which can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FN0VCY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 To order PCBs from a manufacturer, you will need to generate the CAM output files. To do this (1) open the .brd using Eagle (free download I believe), (2) click the manufacturing tab in the top right corner of the board view screen, (3) click “CAM”, (4) tick “Export as ZIP” near the top of the popup, (5) click “Process Job”, (6) save it wherever. Once you have the .zip file, upload the .zip to a pcb manufacturer’s website. I recommend JLCPCB or, if in the US, OSH Park. *Note: I followed the above steps on a Mac. It may be slightly different for Windows.*
