Hubsan Zino - ribbon cable of gimbal and camera protection
Description
Original files and updated info: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4196931 Drone Hubsan Zino / Pro - damage prevention of ribbon cable of the gimbal. -- Replacement of Hubsan part, ribbon cables do not get caught in the modified part, thus avoiding the gimbal or camera injury. -- This modified component keeps the primary function of the original Hubsan part but additionally, significantly reduces the chance of the ripping of ribbon cable of gimbal and camera... This part is located in front of the gimbal and fixed with a well reachable screw, so it is really easy to replace in less than a minute. The original role of this part (retaining element) is to limit the gimbal movement to save the gimbal soft dampener fixation and to avoid gimbal getting out from its place during any mechanical shock e.g. hard landing. Unfortunately the ribbon cables can get caught in this element in certain situation (e.g. collision, falling or hitting something or even incorrect handling/mounting the Hubsan gimbal protector) and the cables may break... This is a video, showing the problem: https://youtu.be/y8BWnvYIZo8 This shows the assembly: https://youtu.be/xzWUftqwgtA Version history: 1. Initial 2. Add deflector cams 3. Reinforce deflector cams, and some minor changes for easier printing 4. Thicker, designed for lower layer-adhesion prints For makers, I used PETG (0.1mm, 30mm/s) and applied some tricks to reach better layer to layer adhesion. There are many options, some are: reduce the printing speed, reduce the cooling, increase the extrusion factor to 105%, etc... **About the ribbon cables of Hubsan Zino:** The ribbon cable is a fragile cable with many conducting hairlike wires running parallel to each other. Two ribbon cables go from main board to gimbal/camera component. One goes to the camera and carries the image signals. This ribbon cable has 1+1 connectors. The one is connected to the main board the other is connected to the camera board on the gimbal. If it is broken then the following things may not work on the Zino: FPV, connection to the remote controller or SD card reading/writing. The another ribbon cable is responsible for the movement of camera, that is for the three gimbal servomotors and gimbal gyro signals. It has 3+1 connectors. In most cases Zino can detect the cable failure and sends an error message. But the detectability of intermittent ribbon cable failures are hard, and the defect is just assumable for example about the shaking video, occasionally appeared gimbal error messages or other "unexplained" behavior of Zino... **If a ribbon cable is injured that is not necessarily visible.** Sometimes just one hairlike wire in the cable is ruptured, what sometimes can conduct the signals sometimes cannot. The conductivity may depend on how the cable is bent (how the gimbal actually stands). This is why so difficult detecting the cable damage. Here is a dialog about testing the ribbon cable: www.quora.com/How-can-I-know-if-my-ribbon-cable-is-broken **It's better to prevent trouble than cure it**, but if it's too late and you have already a broken cable, then a very good explanation about the gimbal drive/servo ribbon cable replace can be found here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=znwgM-FA-5g I claim that replacing a faulty ribbon cable (especially for the camera) is a nightmare. It takes months to source from China the new ones and the assembly is a precise operation, requires attention and practical skills If you have implemented it and found it useful, feel free coming back and donate (tip). :) **HAPPY FLYING!**
