Ikea Tertial Base w/bearings
Description
Finally a sturdy base for the Ikea Tertial lamp! I made a similar design 1 year ago and never publish it because it had some issues: 1.The bearings made it so smooth that if the surface was not perfectly level the lamp will freely fall and rotate towards the lowest point. 2.Because of the high lever at the base some layers split. Finally I decided to solve it. I have implemented a brake system to prevent the lamp from free rotating due to gravity. My first idea was an aluminium indexing plate with a ball plunger, but then I changed my mind to a more simple friction brake (both adjustable). I went ahead with my original idea but I believe the friction system will be more durable and it's easier to make, no need of a CNC only 3D printer. Anyway I share both, just in case. To solve the layer spliting issue I have used more screws not only to hold the lid and internals but as a reinforment of the hole base giving them the full lenght. BOM 1x Base (3d printed) 1x Lid (3d printed) 1x Smooth_plate (3d printed recommended) or 1x Index_plate (CNC) 1x Lock collar with set screw (for 8mm rod) 1x 8mm steel smooth rod (I used M8 thread rod) 2x 608 bearings 1x M5 locking nut 1x M5x12mm ball plunger (a set screw will work on the friction plate) 8x M3x35mm socket head screw 8x M8 nut See in pictures how to glue the rod with metal epoxy to the end of the lamp and the friction plate to the lock collar.
